Description
The Temporary Prep Lab Staff Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the Prep Lab staff and student employees. This position will guide operations and answer questions, which will require a combination of on campus time and availability by phone, in case of an emergency.
Scope of Work
This position will serve during the summer from May 25, 2023 through August 4, 2023. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Schedule shifts in the Prep Lab and oversee the Prep Lab staff members
- Recruit and select student employees, including IAs
- Assist with technical day-to-day questions, not related to lab course schedules and instructor staffing
- Coordinate with the Biology/Public Health Department Chair and the Physical Sciences Department Chair as needed (Chairs are responsible for their respective lab course schedules, instructor staffing, faculty issues, budgets, accounts, and Workday)
- Oversee safe operations of the Prep Lab, answer staff questions about safety, and coordinate with the TMCC Environmental Health and Safety Office as needed
- Coordinate with the Administrative Assistant in Biology/Public Health and the Executive Assistant of the Dean of Life Science, Allied Health, and Public Safety as needed
- Coordinate with NV INBRE Grant Manager and others involved in lab-related undergraduate research
- Ensure laboratory courses are provided the needed support to deliver high quality instruction to students
Qualifications
- Academic or Administrative Faculty
- Experience in lab safety, lab curriculum support, and personnel management
- Background in lab techniques commonly used in undergraduate lab courses
Compensation
The compensation for the described assignment and term is $50/hr., 10 hours a week, 11 weeks ($5,500) or an equivalent of 3 credits for the First Summer Session and 3 credits for the Second Summer Session. This additional assignment is supported by a set dollar amount which cannot be directed towards release time. Paying a stipend is the only reasonable compensation.
