The Steps to Enroll for New Degree-Seeking Students were developed to support your success at TMCC. If you are seeking a degree and have never been to college, including TMCC, you must complete these steps before you can register for classes.
- Apply for Admission
Complete a TMCC Application for Admission and view important dates and deadlines. If you have questions, contact the Admissions and Records office.
- Apply for Financial Aid
Get help with your college expenses by completing the online FAFSA by July 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring or April 1 for Summer. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact the Financial Aid Office, or reach out to one of our financial literacy peer mentors.
Note: This step is a recommendation, not a requirement. Please note in order to complete the FAFSA you must be a citizen, permanent resident or other eligible non-citizen of the U.S. as documented by Citizenship and Immigration Services.
- Take a Placement Test
New students have three options for placement testing: ACCUPLACER, ACT or SAT. Scores must be less than two years old. You can submit official copies of your ACT and/or SAT scores to the Admissions and Records office. TMCC offers students who have not taken the ACT or SAT the option to take the ACCUPLACER placement test. Recent (within last two years prior to term in which you are applying) high school graduates may place using alternate pathways.
- Complete New Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR)
All new, degree-seeking students must complete SOAR. SOAR (Part I) is online and covers information and resources you need to start your education at TMCC on the track to success. SOAR (Part II) is your chance to meet with the advising staff, prepare a first semester class schedule and register.
- Register and Pay for Classes
Class registration and payment are completed through MyTMCC using your TMCC username and password. If you need assistance with your username or password and you know your NSHE Student ID number, visit the online self-service tools. If you do not know your NSHE Student ID number or would like additional registration assistance, call the Registration Call Center at 775-673-7111 or visit the Welcome Center (located on the first floor of the Red Mountain Building).
