Steps to Enroll for Military/Veteran Students

Start your college experience off right with Veterans Upward Bound (VUB)—serving veterans at TMCC since 1989! VUB is a free educational program for qualified veterans.

Choose Your Category

There are four categories for Military/Veteran students; please select the appropriate category to proceed to your Steps to Enroll information.

Note: New veterans applying for admission who were honorably discharged within the past five years will not be charged out-of-state tuition. Simply indicate veteran status on the application for admission.

Any member of the U.S. military who has served on active duty and has accumulated qualifying time in service may be eligible for VA education benefits. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs, based on the following categories: qualifying active duty time, disability rating if applicable, and type of discharge from the U.S. military.

Military Dependents/Spouses

Must be a spouse, child, step-child, or adopted child of a veteran who is deceased (service connected) or is rated 100% disabled (service connected, permanent and total) or an active duty member who has transferred their education benefit to a qualifying spouse or dependent while on active duty and/or before retirement. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Army/Air National Guard

Current drilling members of the Nevada Army/Air National Guard may qualify for the state guard tuition waiver. This waiver covers the cost of tuition minus any tech fees. Guard members may also qualify for select chapters of VA education benefits which are separate from the NV Guard waiver program. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Active Duty

Any individual who is currently under contract with any branch of the U.S. military in an active duty status, may qualify for tuition assistance. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is an agreement between the member’s command and TMCC Accounting Services/Cashier’s Office. This benefit is separate from VA Education Benefits.

Note: If none of these categories apply to you, apply as a New Degree Seeking Student.
