Reference and Research Assistance

During open hours, research assistance is available at the branches. If the branch is closed, contact the Sturm Library reference desk.

Borrowing Materials

A valid TMCC student ID card is needed to check out Library materials. Student IDs may be obtained at the Welcome Center on the first floor of the Red Mountain Building.

The following individuals are eligible to use Library materials under the guidelines outlined below:

  • TMCC students, faculty and staff
  • NSHE faculty and students
  • Residents of the state of Nevada

Length of Loans

Books 3 weeks
Periodicals In-Library use only
Non-reserve Videos
  • TMCC students and NSHE students: 3 days
  • Full and part-time TMCC faculty and staff; NSHE faculty: 7 days
  • State of Nevada residents: 3 days
Feature Films and AV Collections
  • TMCC students and NSHE students: in-Library use only
  • Full and part-time TMCC faculty and staff; NSHE faculty: 7 days
Course Reserve Materials In-Library use only (generally 2 hours)

Computer and Printers

Computers

The Library has desktop computers on the first floor for student and public use. All computers are equipped with Microsoft Office software.

Printers

The Library has both black-and-white and color printers. Note that 8.5 x 11 inch paper size is the only available option.

Students pay the following to print:

Single-sided Black-and-white $0.07 per page
Double-sided Black-and-white $0.05 per page
Single-sided Color $0.20 per page
Double-sided Color $0.18 per page

Printing from a Personal Laptop

  1. Go to printing.tmcc.edu
  2. Log in with your TMCC credentials.
  3. Select Web Print from the menu on the left side of the screen.
  4. Select Submit a Job.
  5. Select a library printer (LibKiosk). Ask for help if you are unsure what to choose.
  6. Upload the document you want to print.
  7. Select Upload & Complete and pick up your printout at the printer.

Copying and Scanning

Scanners

The Library has two flatbed scanners and two book scanners for library users to scan papers and books. The scanned material can be emailed or saved to a portable storage device.

Photocopiers

The library has one black-and-white public photocopier.

Students pay the following for copying:

Single or double-sided Black-and-white $0.10 per page

Bookshelves

Course Reserves

Many department and instructors put items on reserve for classes to use. The Reserve shelves are behind the Circulation Desk. Most of these items check out for 2 hours for use in the Library.

Interlibrary Loan Request

The Library offers an interlibrary loan service to TMCC students to request book chapters or journal articles not owned by any of the TMCC libraries.

Laptop Checkouts

The Library has laptops available for checkout and use in the building. Please see our Laptop Loan Program FAQ for more details.

Lost & Found

Lost and found items are stored in Academic Support Services, LIB 200.

Research Assistance

The Reference staff of the Library are ready to assist students with all of their research needs. Librarians can help formulate search strategies, gather sources, and assist with citations and basic formatting of papers.

Study Space

The entire second floor of the Library is designated as a quiet study space.

Study Room Reservations

The Library has study rooms available for student use, and they can be booked in advance. Please use our online Room Booking System, contact the Circulation Desk or call 775-674-7600 to reserve these rooms.

Tutoring and Learning Services

TMCC's Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) provides free tutoring to TMCC students in several subject areas, including Biology, Chemistry, Economics, French, Math, Physics, Spanish, college study skills, and Writing.

Wireless Internet Connection

The Librarians or student workers located near the public computers can assist you in getting your computer or other wireless device connected to TMCC's wireless connection.
