The Basic Life Support Provider course covers adult and pediatric CPR, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and the relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction. This course also includes instruction on two-rescuer scenarios and bag-valve-mask device.
The Basic Life Support Provider course is a 4-hour course intended for healthcare providers. These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to): physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing assistants or students in training, aides, and other allied health personnel.
The course is a prerequisite for American Heart Association courses such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and BLS instructor courses. It is also a prerequisite for entrance into the Health Sciences programs at TMCC, as well as entrance into any clinical setting.
There are no prerequisites for the Basic Life Support Provider Course.
Course fee is $65 (plus textbook).
The American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers Recertification course reviews adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve-mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation.
Participants will be required to complete a combination of hands-on skills practice, skills testing, and written exam to successfully complete this course.
The Recertification course is a 2-hour course intended for currently certified healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other allied healthcare professionals who are required to recertify a current BLS credential (card).
Current valid American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR card/eCard. You must provide a copy at time of registration to be eligible for the renewal course.
Course fee is $45.
- Please wear appropriate clothing for performing CPR skills (bending over and working on the carpet).
- Workshops are taught in English; if you require special assistance due to learning disabilities or language barriers please notify us at time of registration.
Students must have the appropriate workbook prior to attending class, and must have access to it throughout class. Basic Life Support Student Workbook may be purchased at the TMCC Bookstore.
Participants who complete the BLS course and pass the written exam will receive a Basic Life Support course completion card (credential), which is good for a two year period.

The American Heart Association (AHA) strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in CPR and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Its use in an instructional course does not represent sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the AHA.

In rare cases, classes may be canceled due to very low enrollment or weather conditions. If this occurs, students will be notified and will have the option of attending another class or request a refund within two weeks of cancellation.
Cancel more than three business days in advance of the class start date and you’ll receive a full refund minus a $10 cancellation fee. Cancel three working days or less and receive a 50% refund minus a $10 cancellation fee. Once class begins, however, refunds will not be given.
