The TMCC Humanities Department offers beginning and intermediate-level classes in many languages, including American Sign Language (AM), French (FREN) and Spanish (SPAN).
Fulfill Your Language Requirement
Our two-year language programs of 14 credits allow transfer students to fulfill their foreign language requirement here at TMCC before going to UNR, UNLV, or NSC.
These classes are a great way to learn about the principles of the individual languages, about the structure of language in general, and about the cultures that use the languages. For the latest offerings, see TMCC's Class Schedule.
Associate of Arts Degree
We also offer an Associate of Arts Degree, Spanish that prepares you for university transfer or for employment opportunities.
About Foreign Languages
When you know another language, your horizons expand, you think about ideas from different perspectives, and you can travel to places and in ways not available to ordinary tourists.
Exposure to a language other than English allows us to see English from a new perspective and truly opens our eyes to the invigorating variety of cultures, customs, and values around us and in the world at large. In our increasingly interconnected world, speaking at least two languages is an increasingly valuable skill that opens many employment, cultural, and life opportunities. It is another way that TMCC Humanities brings the world to Northern Nevada.
