F.R.E.E. 2020 Presents: Brave New World Chalk Mural

Faculty for Radical Enlightenment and Empowerment (F.R.E.E.), TMCC's longest-running interdisciplinary learning community, is dedicated to campus-wide sensory-based social-emotional student-centered learning.

We welcome students and faculty to participate in our Fall 2020 physically-distanced event: "A Brave New World," a collaborative chalk mural on the Dandini Plaza (between the Child Care Center and the V. James Eardley Student Center). Students and faculty/staff will—in their own designated grid square—relay one-at-a-time to chalk-illustrate an interpretation of our Brave New World, and how it relates to their Fall 2020 coursework.

The project will divide the Plaza into grid squares. Participating students and staff will fill one grid for one hour according to a physically distanced schedule during October 12-17. Join us for this F.R.E.E. event that involves TMCC's diverse students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative project, that will be accompanied by dance interpretation as performed by TMCC dance students.

Join us and help to bring a sense of belongingness and humanization despite the global crisis.

Event Details

The event is happening the week of October 12-17 in the Plaza on the Dandini Campus.

Up to 60 students can participate, and spots will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

All TMCC students, faculty, staff, TMCC High School students, and preschoolers from the Child Care Center are eligible to participate. All participants will need to write a one-sentence description of their proposed illustration that they will contribute to the collaborative chalk mural.

TMCC students, faculty, and staff who sign up in September will need to have completed the COVID-19 safety training.

Illustrators will be assigned a day and a specific 1-hour time block to arrive, chalk, sanitize their hands, and leave. Time slots will be assigned from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on October 12- 17.
