How to be a Fan of the Mighty Lizards

Being a fan is fun, but as it turns out there’s more than one way to show the love for your home team. If it’s been a while since you’ve indulged in soccer fandom and you want to make sure you’re ready to go for the August 15 kick-off event for TMCC’s Mighty Lizard soccer teams, we put together an easy list of things to do to make sure you’re 100% ready to become a Mighty Lizard soccer fan.

  1. Follow, tweet and share our stuff. Our social media experts have the pulse of TMCC Athletics—watch our feeds to see when the soccer field is ready, when the student-athletes will be on campus, when the training starts! We’ll share all these exciting photo ops, live videos, and other cool stuff with you on social media, so be sure to follow us so that you can like, share and comment on all the #GoTMCCLizards posts.
  2. Go to events with other fans. We’ve got the perfect one: “U.S. Women’s National Team Night” with Fireworks and a Soccer ball giveaway at the Reno 1868 game on Saturday, June 15. Additionally, the game will feature our Mighty Lizards Women’s Soccer team as a part of the tunnel to welcome the 1868 players on the field. Join in the fun in the TMCC cheering section! Get your $5 ticket to the event today! (Be sure to use the coupon code: ladies.)
  3. Join the Mighty Lizards Club. Support TMCC Athletics by joining this exclusive club! There are tiered membership options to accommodate any level of giving. Your awesome (and much appreciated) donations support our student-athletes in pursuing their goals on the field and in the classroom.
  4. Buy some gear and wear it. TMCC’s on-campus bookstore is stocking up on Mighty Lizard shirts, hats, sweatshirts, scarves and many other fun accessories that will have you decked in the black and green in no time flat. You can even order your gear online
  5. Know the lingo. Aside from the obvious (gooooaaaaaallll!) you should brush up on your soccer vocabulary. This is useful for impressing friends and loved ones, but also for understanding the game. Players whose positions are “Forwards” or “Strikers” versus those who are “Defenders” or “Fullbacks.” (FYI: “dribbling” the ball looks nothing like it does in basketball.) If all of the technical jargon is too much, the best two words to remember are: “Vamos Verdes.” (When in doubt, shout that out!)
  6. Watch the games. If all else fails, the best way to be a Mighty Lizards fan is to go to the games. It helps if you know when and where they are—so, we’ve included the official schedules for both the Men's and Women's teams below.

Now there’s no excuses—you're all set to be the best Mighty Lizard fan ever. Vamos Verdes!
