Students in the Dental Clinic will benefit from new equipment and technology through the #GivingTuesday campaign.

#GivingTuesday is November 27, and TMCC is proud to join this global day of giving to highlight philanthropy at this special time of year.

This year, we invite the community to help give the gift of healthy smiles by supporting TMCC's Dental Clinic expansion.

Lori McDonald, TMCC Director of Dental Hygiene Studies, explained the importance of dental studies and health. “Studies show that a healthy smile equals a healthy body with good oral hygiene leading to a lower risk of heart disease, better memory and benefits to those afflicted with diabetes.  At TMCC, our dental programs are committed to not only serving our students but also our community with providing services that lead to good overall health.”

New Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene

In the spirit of embracing new opportunities for students, the College is launching a new Bachelor of Science Degree, Dental Hygiene (BSDH) in Fall 2019.

Bolstered by a grant of $1.6 million from the William N. Pennington Foundation, the College will enhance dental programs and facilities to include expansion of the dental clinic, a new dental clinic dedicated to serving veterans, as well as an anatomy and physiology lab for biology students.

Expansion of dental programs and labs will create many more opportunities to meet the increasing needs for dental hygienists and dental assistants in the region, and ultimately all of the allied health professions.

“The benefit of awarding students a BSDH is becoming the "Gold Standard" in education and patient care,” McDonald continued. “The BSDH degree and dental clinic expansion will benefit the graduates, our community, and state by continuing to build upon existing collaborations the program has established since 1998. It will develop new partnerships within the community and meet workforce needs while students improve the oral healthcare of Nevadans.”

As The College Looks Forward to Finals and the End of the Fall Semester, the TMCC Community is All Smiles for #GivingTuesday

Last year, the TMCC community of alumni and friends raised nearly $2,500 for scholarships. This year, contributions will support equipment needs including dental chairs, cleaning equipment such as powered scalers and polishers, and handheld tablets for student and patient education.

Whether an alumni, friend or faculty member, your continued commitment to TMCC’s programs makes a difference every single day and we appreciate you. Thank you for considering TMCC as we enter this season of giving and sharing.
