TMCC Foundation 2017 Annual Report

Your Gift Matters C larissa McIntyre Radiologic Technology Scholarship Recipient Profile Name: Clarissa McIntyre Major: Radiologic Technician Grad Year: Spring 2018 What are your career plans? I want to do a lot of things in the medical field. I think after I gradu- ate I would like to accomplish my Bachelor’s degree and possibly move into different modalities in the Radiology program, perhaps MRI, CT, interventional radiog- raphy, or Cath lab. There’s a lot of opportunities and different segways I know that I could take being in the Radiology depart- ment. What do you like best about your area of study? The medical field has always in- terested me; the helping of people when they’re in the hospital at their worst condition; to be able to be there and comfort them and sup- port them and see them through their healing process. It’s a very rewarding feeling for me. What makes TMCC special? My time at TMCC is great. I have, encountered so many amazing people who are great at their job, willing to support and assist stu- dents like me who are older and maybe not as quick into learning things. I like TMCC because of the intimacy of its environment. It’s not a big campus to where you don’t know your instructors.. I feel supported as a student at TMCC. I feel like I can approach my instruc- tors for help. How are you funding your education? Being in the Radiology program, I can’t work as much because of the clinical and classroom hours. I have applied for scholarships that help a lot. Some of the scholar- ships I have received have been from the Reno Rotary Foundation, Nevada Women’s Fund, Redfield Foundation, Philippine United Students Organization, Honeycutt Memorial, and Follet Bookstore. What does scholarship support mean to you? Like I said it has helped offset my cost of living because I cannot work the hours that I need to be able to pay my bills along with the loans that I take out every semes- ter. So it has helped tremendously, make it easier finishing up this program. What would you say to your scholarship donors? I want to say thank you to them, for their support. Thanks for be- lieving in students like me, giving us the opportunity to be a pro- ductive citizen of Reno. We truly appreciate their support. From the bottom of my heart and I’m sure from the bottom of everybody’s heart who has received scholar- ships like I have.
