Paramedic Coordinator

Per the NFA Contract, Article 10, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for a Paramedic Coordinator.

Description

The Paramedic Coordinator reports to the Public Safety Director. The position is responsible for assisting the development and maintenance of curriculum, scheduling, and oversight of full-time and part-time instructors for Paramedics, including initial certification instruction and continuing education courses.  The position requires collaboration with other EMS faculty in developing and maintaining courses and selecting course materials, and in participation of advisement of students.  

Scope of Work

This position will serve during the 2022–23 academic term starting on July 1, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2023 as 6 units of release or overload time. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.

Responsibilities and Deliverables 

  • Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, evaluation and continual review and improvement of TMCC Paramedic programs.
  • Collaborates with the program director to develop goals, policies, and procedures to enhance Paramedic education and achievement of student learning outcomes. 
  • Coordinates instruction and monitor activities of instructors/presenters during instructional time.  Helps evaluate full-time and part-time instructor performance, provides feedback, and develops instructor remediation plans with the program director.
  • Participates in continuing professional development programs such as, but not limited to, NAEMT or AHA, as appropriate.
  • Adheres to established TMCC policies and procedures and respects the diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Participates in activities that promote TMCC’s Paramedic programs, including instructor recruitment, coordination of volunteers, program marketing, student advisement, research on EMS equipment, and budget planning as appropriate.
  • Participates in course assessments and curriculum mapping for the Paramedic program, and helps prepare and maintain data and records required for program accreditation.
  • Represent TMCC on EMS education related discussions, collaborate with the medical director as needed, and serves as liaison with state and national organizations about policies and requirements. 
  • Manages and coordinates the Bridge Program within the EMS program.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned and ensure quality of delegated responsibilities.
     

Qualifications and Competencies 

  • Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and be a licensed paramedic in the state of Nevada. 
  • Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience. 
  • Knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students, and have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.  
  • Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of program graduates, be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure. 
  • Candidate must have Instructor Level Certifications in the following areas:  Paramedic, CPR/HealthCare Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or be willing to have them within 90 days of hire. 
  • Ability to collaborate, take initiative, and maintain high standards.

Compensation

The Paramedic Coordinator will receive 3 units of release or overload time starting the Fall 2022 semester and 3 units of release or overload time in the Spring 2023 semester.

Reports To

The Director of Public Safety.

The letter should be addressed to Mike Schulz, Director of Public Safety. NOTE: Administrative faculty must include a documented plan for separation of the additional assignment work from regular work time.
