Nursing Faculty Mentor

Per the NFA Contract, Article 10, TMCC is announcing to all eligible employees that a need exists for Nursing Faculty Mentor Additional Assignments (3).

Description

The Nursing Faculty Mentors will mentor full-time Nursing faculty who are new to the processes, procedures, and accreditation requirements of the Maxine S. Jacobs Nursing Program during their first semester of teaching. 

Scope of Work

Nursing Faculty Mentors serve during the academic term 2021–2022, for the Spring 2022 semester. The assignment will cover the 88 contract days of the semester consisting of a two-credit assignment per assigned mentee.  This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  1. Assist faculty mentees with instructional preparations including for lecture, simulation lab, skills lab, student evaluation, use of NCLEX questions, and clinical instruction. 
  2. Assist faculty mentees in understanding and adhering to the required processes and procedures of didactic, skills lab, and clinical instruction, including safety compliance, Covid regulations, and documentation.
  3. Assist faculty mentees in understanding and meeting the professional and teaching standards required to maintain program accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  4. Onboard faculty mentees on the ADN Nursing Program Handbook as it pertains to their instructional assignments, including program curriculum, objectives, and concepts, student policies, clinical and laboratory policies, and graduation and RN Licensure requirements.
  5. Onboard faculty mentees on the use of the following in their instructional assignments:  Nursing Program Attrition Survey, Nursing Program Incident Report, Nursing Program Notice of Injury, Nursing Program potential Pathogen Exposure, and Nursing Student Accident Report.
  6. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.
  7. Maintain sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students.
  8. Comply with published college policies and procedures.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Dean.

Accountability

Nursing Faculty Mentors will work with their assigned mentees and update the Director of Nursing as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Current full-time Nursing faculty, with at least one year of experience in the TMCC Nursing Program.

Compensation

This assignment is an overload or release for two credits per faculty mentee, for achieving the duties listed above, which will take an estimated 4 hours per week, or a total of approximately 60 hours over the semester.

Reports To

The Director of Nursing and the Life Sciences, Allied Health and Public Safety Division Dean.

Application Process

Interested employees will submit a brief letter of interest describing the course/section they are teaching no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2022

Selection Process

The Director of Nursing or the Dean will notify applicants of the hiring decision on or before Feb. 8, 2022.
