Per the NFA Contract, Article 10, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for one (1) LGBTQ+ Advocate.

Description

The LGBTQ+ Advocate will play a vital role in the College and community’s diversity initiatives. This position is funded from a Nevada Department of Health and Human Service grant. The LGBTQ+ Advocate will serve as Advisor to the TMCC Queer Student Club; serve as Committee Chair for TMCC LGBTQ+ Friends and Allies Committee; as well as provide and coordinate LGBTQ+ resources for campus community.

Scope of Work

Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, approximately 200 – 250 work hours per academic year.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  1. Promote understanding and inclusion of LGBTQ+ concepts across the College.
  2. Provide leadership for the TMCC Queer Student Club and TMCC LGBTQ+ Friends and Allies Committee, including planning and facilitating meetings.
  3. Provide and coordinate LGBTQ+ resources for the campus community. Research and communicate local, regional, and nationwide resources available.
  4. Collect, compile, track and report data related to the grant initiatives to help quantify the College’s efforts.
  5. Work with the Equity, Inclusion and Sustainability Office to develop and maintain tools, metrics, and indicators for assessing progress.
  6. Meet regularly with the Equity, Inclusion and Sustainability Office and assist with the preparation of grant reports and related materials.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates for this position will meet the following criteria:

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience and/or research focused on LGBTQ+ education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational equity, diversity initiatives, social justice, and institutional inclusion.
  • Experience in program assessment: data source identification, collection, compilation, and tracking.

Preferences

  • Experience in a faculty leadership role.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion and the societal transformations needed to effectively address the pressing issues.

Compensation

$7,000 stipend

This is an additional assignment supported by a set dollar amount stipend. Since it is a set amount, this cannot be directed towards release time.

Reports to

Equity, Inclusion, and Sustainability Office under the Vice President of Student Services and Diversity.

NOTE: Administrative faculty must include a documented plan for separation of the additional assignment work from regular work time.
