300-level Transfer Course Development for GRC 353 - Commercial Printing Processes II

Per the NFA Contract, Article 10, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for a Graphic Arts & Media Technology (GAMT) Curriculum Developer (upper-division course).  This position will develop and adjust curriculum for the Graphic Arts & Media Technology (GAMT) program as noted below.

Description

These new 300 level courses are part of an overall revision of the Graphic Arts & Media Technology (GAMT) program. They are third-year courses for the new advanced certificate, which is a part of the new 3+1 BA degree program. The course descriptions and outcomes have been approved and are in the catalog but the courses have never been taught and the content has not been created yet.

Scope of Work

This assignment will begin February 21, 2020 and will end May 22, 2020. It will entail approximately 9 hours per week over the course of Spring semester. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

GRC 353 - Commercial Printing Processes II

Course Description
An advanced course in commercial printing processes including screen printing and offset lithography. Hands-on course will focus on electronic pre-press and production processes used in commercial printing for content creation, optimization, output, and printing production. Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: GRC 153 and GRC 200 or approval of instructor.

Course Outcomes

  • Student will identify and understand historic and current trends in commercial screen printing processes.
  • Student will utilize advanced production techniques in offset lithographic printing processes.
  • Students will evaluate, analyze and preflight electronic files as required for successful commercial printing.
  1. Using the approved course description and outcomes above, the faculty member will use backwards course design principles to develop assignments and assessments appropriate to a 300-level course.
  2. The faculty member will develop a syllabus and supporting materials (rubrics, Canvas materials, etc.) for the course.
  3. The faculty member will provide feedback as requested.
  4. The faculty member will deliver a written report at the end of the semester outlining the work completed.
  5. The faculty member will complete other duties agreed to with the Dean and the Chair.

Accountability

The curriculum designer will provide a monthly report on the status of the above responsibilities to the Chair and Dean. At the end of the semester the curriculum designer will provide a written outline of how the goals and outcomes outlined above were met.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:

  • Current TMCC Graphic Arts faculty.
  • Be familiar with the VPA Department 3+1 curriculum.
  • Have knowledge and proven skills in backwards course design principles.

Compensation

Equivalent of a 1 credit stipend: $850.

Dean of Liberal Arts

The letter should be addressed to the Dean of Liberal Arts and must be received in that office by 5:00 p.m. on February 20, 2020.

The Dean of Liberal Arts will notify applicants of the hiring decision on or before February 21, 2020.
