Grades and Evaluations
Grades
Truckee Meadows Community College uses the following grading system:
- A: superior performance (4 grade points)
- B: above average performance (3 grade points)
- C: average performance (2 grade points)
- D: below average performance (1 grade point)
- F: failure (0 grade points)
Individual faculty members choose whether to use the 'plus' and 'minus' grades. Work may also be graded as Pass/Withdraw or Satisfactory (C or above)/Unsatisfactory (D or below) but carry no grade point value. Grading criteria are included in all class outlines.
Evaluation
TMCC policy is that each instructor in a regularly scheduled course will be evaluated each semester by the students enrolled in that course. The evaluations are completed online through the Canvas course. These results will be shared with the faculty, but only after grades for the course have been assigned.
Evaluation of Prior Work Experience
It is the policy of the Dietetic Technician Program at TMCC to not give credit for prior work experience.

Supervised Practice Internships: Placement Policy and Procedures
- In order for students to start internships, the following prerequisites must be met (in addition to instructor approval to enroll in NUTR 291, 292 and 293).
- NUTR 291 prerequisites: CUL 100, NUTR 220 and NUTR 221 with a grade of "C" or better.
- NUTR 292 prerequisites: NUTR 233 with a grade of "C" or better.
- NUTR 293 prerequisites: NUTR 243 and 244 with grades of "C" or better.
- The student must schedule an advising meeting with the Program Coordinator to request placement at least one semester prior to placement.
- The student shall proceed with submission of proper documentation (immunizations and health insurance). These documents must be received prior to being placed on the internship site schedule.
- The coordinator will then proceed with a second student meeting to sign the Code of Conduct and ensure that the Code of Ethics requirement has been met. The student will then be placed on the internship site schedule in the order of priority based on the calendar date when this step has been reached.
- Upon preparation for internship placement, the student will be given permission to enroll in the course and proceed with scheduling with the site preceptor.
- Internship sites are managed by Heidi Himler, Director (University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Dairy Council, Renown Health, Department of Education and Reno Housing Authority)

Student Complaint Policy for Dietetic Technician Students
- Student complaints should first be directed to the Program Director. If the issue is in regard to the Program Coordinator, then the student can proceed directly to the Dean of the Sciences Division.
- If the complaint is not resolved, the student has the option to proceed to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- If the complaint is still not resolved, the student has the option to proceed to the President of the College.
- If a student complaint is not resolved and the issue is in regard to program compliance with accreditation standards, the student may contact the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) to submit a formal complaint.
