For students in Truckee Meadows Community College’s Automotive Program, evolving technologies in the automobile industry present both challenges and opportunity.

As automotive technology evolves, basic repair know-how integrates with understanding electronics, computers and troubleshooting applications. The TMCC William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center houses the Automotive Program in a 10,000-square-foot bay. This is the learning laboratory, where students receive a quality, accessible training program that provides them with the skills to pursue positions at all levels—from general maintenance to certified master technicians. In fact, alumni of the program are currently employed in over 20 local automotive dealers and repair shops.

While vehicle repair grows more complex, so should the teaching vehicles on which students are learning. One of the hallmarks of a superior automotive technology program is a fleet of late model vehicles, providing students with real world learning opportunities.

Right now, community members can help jump-start the semester for TMCC’s automotive students with a vehicle donation. Each donation of a vehicle model 2008 or newer (hybrids are especially important) provides students with practical experience that will allow them to enter the workforce fully trained in the latest technology and equipment as it relates to the modern vehicle.

Interested in donating a car, truck or van to the TMCC Automotive Program? The process is simple. To learn more about donating a used vehicle to the Automotive Program at TMCC, please contact the TMCC Foundation at 775-673-8262 or email Stefanie Givens.
