Don't Let Fastober Pass You By

While the college application process is hardly ever easy, completing the FAFSA (which stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is probably the most challenging part. Yet, this is a necessary evil for most students, especially those hoping to receive financial assistance for their education, whether that be in the form of scholarships, work-study, grants or loans.

Don’t know much about the FAFSA? Here are a few fast FAFSA fun facts:

  • The FAFSA opens Oct. 1, so if you’re worried about receiving Financial Aid, there’s no time like the present to get started;
  • The FAFSA qualifies you for federal, state and institutional funds;
  • Filling out the FAFSA has always been free...but this year, the process can be fast, too, thanks to TMCC’s FASTOBER event.

How FASTOBER Can Help You

We know that trying to complete the FAFSA by yourself can be a long and frustrating process, especially if you’re applying for the first time. That’s why TMCC created FASTOBER: a free one-day event that is designed to help you get through the FAFSA fast by pairing you with one of our highly trained staff so you can complete the application correctly—and quickly!

The event is happening on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Sierra Building on the Dandini Campus. In addition to targeted workshops designed to get you through the FAFSA and Nevada Promise Scholarship Application processes, we will also have light refreshments on hand to keep you motivated and child-friendly activities to keep your little ones in check while you complete these sometimes complicated applications.

If this sounds too good to be true, make sure you register for the event as soon as possible. We wish we could offer this fantastic resource to everyone, but unfortunately, space is limited. Registering right away ensures you’ve saved your spot. Plus, the sooner you register, the sooner our experts will reach out to you to make sure that you have the correct paperwork in hand, so you can make the most out of FASTOBER.

When you register, you’ll also need to decide which workshop you want to attend: we are offering a workshop for completing the FAFSA, and a workshop for the Nevada Promise Scholarship Application and the FAFSA. If you aren’t sure which workshop is the best for you, be sure to submit the form, and one of our highly trained staff will contact you to work out the details.

No matter which workshop you attend, be prepared to bring all the required documents and supports with you to whatever workshop you attend, which will probably include a government-issued ID, your social security number, and a parent/guardian. You are encouraged to bring your 2018 forms and W2’s, for the student and parent.

“FASTOBER is open for all students,” said Financial Aid Coordinator for Scholarships and Outreach Elisabeth Saldana, “but especially for prospective students and those also hoping to apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship. Our department encourages students to register early and to take advantage of this great event  so they can have access to all the Financial Aid opportunities available that can help to fund their educations.”
