NV Energy and the NV Energy Foundation have supported TMCC programs like Success First Summer Bridge.

The TMCC Foundation would like to extend a special thank you to NV Energy and the NV Energy Foundation for their historical support of Truckee Meadows Community College. NV Energy’s commitment spans over three decades dating back to 1987 when NV Energy was formerly Sierra Pacific Power. NV Energy’s generosity has been instrumental in providing annual student scholarships and many special projects. Over the past 19 years, NV Energy has provided scholarships to TMCC students in eight programs, which has allowed more than 50 students to pursue their educational goals.

Additionally, NV Energy has been actively engaged in TMCC’s Success First Summer Bridge Program since 2012. The Success First Summer Bridge Program is critical to ensuring students have the skills they need to successfully work toward pursuing a college degree or certificate.

The Success First Summer Bridge Program provides six weeks of college readiness services offering participants the opportunity to start college immediately after high school graduation with two classes at no cost. The program was designed to benefit low-income, first-generation college students by providing a bridge between high school graduation and the student’s first fall semester of college. Students enrolled in the Success First Summer Bridge Program typically learn how to navigate the college environment, access services to improve their academic success, such as tutoring, and may receive assistance finding needed employment from TMCC’s Career Center. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to receive an $800 Foundation scholarship. In 2018, the Success First Summer Bridge Program served 128 students and in 2019 is expected to serve at least 150 students when it will be celebrating its 10th year anniversary.

NV Energy’s continued support of TMCC and these initiatives strengthen the Truckee Meadows Community. Carolyn Barbash, Vice President Business Development and Community Relations at NV Energy added, “NV Energy is proud to be a leader in our community in supporting important initiatives at TMCC that drive the academic needs of our future generations, development of our northern Nevada workforce, and promote Nevada’s economic growth”.

Thank you, NV Energy, for being a community leader and TMCC Corporate Partner. Your vision continues to help TMCC meet the needs of new, existing, and emerging industries in the region—industries that are stimulating economic growth and providing incredible opportunities for the community and our students.
