Adopt a Vet Dental received the Governor's Award of Nevada Veteran Supporter of the Month of May in front of an audience of veterans, residents and representatives of TMCC.

The Adopt a Vet Dental Program (AAVD), providers of a dental clinic for veterans at the TMCC Dental Hygiene Clinic, recently was honored with a state-level award.

AAVD was given the Governor’s Award of Nevada Veteran Supporter of the Month for May 2017 at the State Capitol Building on May 24. The AAVD Program is sponsored by the Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs (NNDHP).

Kat Miller, Director of the Nevada Department of Veteran Services presented the framed certificate to AAVD in the Old Assembly Chambers in front of an audience of veterans, residents from the region, and representatives of TMCC.

To date, AAVD has provided pro bono dental care for more than 850 low-income veterans, working together with local volunteer dentists, dental assistants and laboratories. It has now expanded its service by partnering with TMCC to offer oral health services at the College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic on Fridays. The TMCC Dental Assisting Program provides students to assist the Adopt a Vet dentists in the Dental Clinic.

“With this new clinic—and thanks to TMCC and the William N. Pennington Foundation—AAVD will be able to serve more veterans in a shorter period of time, leaving less veterans suffering in pain for so long,” said Linda Haigh, AAVD Director and Founder.
