Giving Tuesday Supports Josh Beal Memorial Scholarship

Veteran Beal

TMCC Student Veteran, Josh Beal

As we move toward the holiday giving season and end of the semester, TMCC and the TMCC Foundation are excited to support the creation of the Josh Beal Memorial Scholarship Endowment.  Through #GivingTuesday, a global movement that highlights philanthropy and inspires giving at this special time of year, the TMCC Foundation requests your generous support to raise at least $5,000 to endow the Josh Beal Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Josh Beal joined the Marines at age 17, and became a warfare leader, paratrooper, and EMT. He survived four tours between Iraq, Norway, and Afghanistan before acquiring a traumatic brain injury during his last deployment that forced him to leave the military. Josh started his new mission at TMCC and worked as a financial aid peer mentor. At the time of his death at age 28, Josh was only a few credits away from graduating. To honor Josh, TMCC awarded him the college’s first posthumous degree in 2016, a year after his death.

Funds raised during this year’s #GivingTuesday will be combined with the donations raised during the Spartan Pledge Day to fund the Josh Beal Memorial Scholarship. The Spartan Pledge is a movement designed to help our nation’s Veterans live with a purpose and aims to reduce suicide rates to help make a positive impact in their lives and in our community.

For some veterans like Josh, coming home doesn’t mean their war is over, it means a new battle and mission begins. Help us lessen the struggle of another TMCC veteran student by generously donating to the Josh Beal Memorial Scholarship!

In order to endow the scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year, we need to raise at least $5,000. By participating in #GivingTuesday you can help us reach this goal while investing in the success of a veteran and TMCC student. Gifts of any size are welcome and greatly appreciated!  If you have questions, please contact Jeannie Byassee.
