6 The International Club (I-Club) is one of the largest and longest standing student run clubs at TMCC. The I-Club is a social support network for international and domestic students, providing opportunities for students from different backgrounds to come together to celebrate different cultures and diversity in the community. Each semester the I-Club organizes games nights, movie nights, scavenger hunts, volunteer work, BBQs, and field trips to Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. All students are welcome to join in the fun as a member of the TMCC I-Club. PEER MENTORS & INTERNATIONAL CLUB International Peer Mentors serve newly admitted and current international students to help them acclimate to Reno, TMCC and life in the United States. Our Peer Mentors assist international students with finding on-campus and community resources, and help newly admitted students integrate in the campus community. They are located in the Diversity and International Student Center and Office (DISCO) and are available to any student needing assistance or wanting to learn more about what TMCC and Reno have to offer. On-Campus Resources TMCC provides international students with free access to a variety of on campus resources to ensure each student is successful academically, emotionally, and prepared for the next steps in their academic and professional endeavors. 8 TMCC students enjoy FREE public transportation with their TMCC student ID and many of our international students take advantage of this service. Reno is a bike friendly city with bike paths available to cyclists throughout town. Our students also use rideshare services like Uber and Lyft to get around. For quick weekend trips there are affordable busses to nearby cities like San Francisco or Sacramento. Exploring surrounding states like Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Arizona is also an option. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is close to campus and has many flights to choose from every day. TMCC does not have a dormitory on campus, so students commute to TMCC. We encourage students to begin their experience in the U.S. with a homestay. A local “host” family can provide additional support with cultural adjustment, language learning, and even help with airport pick-up. If a more independent living situation is preferred, students can choose to begin with a homestay for up to two months, or move into an apartment right away. For more information about the homestay option offered in the Reno area, please see our website international.tmcc.edu and click on “Housing Options” for the homestay application and other housing and transportation recommendations.
