Learn how to identify minerals and rocks, where to dig for them and what tools are helpful. Examine local specimens, learn how to research their properties, discuss safety and etiquette, and learn about what you can do with the rocks you collect. Take your newfound knowledge out into the field with an expert from the Reno Gem and Mineral Society. Enjoy the outdoors and explore sites you’ve never been to before. Supplies required. Learn about area glaciation, earthquake faults and more. Then tour with a geologist to visit fascinating features in Genoa, Carson River, Hope Valley and Red Lake. We will also discuss regrowth cycles after forest fires.
