He purposefully integrates active learning techniques and can keep students engaged for three hours. When TMCC lost its full-time Engineering instructor, Dan picked up the program and redesigned ENGR 100. Because of him, the Engineering program is thriving and increasing in headcount. Dan created all the in-class instructional materials for the PHYS 180/L and PHYS 181/L courses to replace the textbooks long before OER was even a topic. Dan is the kind of instructor whose previous students return to thank him for the excellent grounding in physics they received. A previous student wrote the following in his letter of recommendation, “His classes have not only helped me understand complex physics concepts, but they have also been a driving force behind my goals of attaining a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and one day becoming a college professor myself.” The Paul and Rebecca Stymelski TMCC Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award is awarded to an individual who has made outstanding achievements in teaching at TMCC. 2023 Regents’ Academic Advisor - Community Colleges Grecia AnayaArevalo Grecia Anaya-Arevalo was born in Mexico but moved to the US at an early age.
