Mandatory COVID-19 Training

Before a TMCC employee can return to any TMCC location, they need to complete a mandatory safety training and re-entry module in Canvas. The training module includes quizzes to test for comprehension and will result in a digital record of completion.

Face Masks Mandatory for TMCC Students, Faculty and Staff

Per NSHE, CDC, and Nevada OSHA guidance, all employees are required to wear face coverings when outside their personal offices or when they are in close contact (less than six feet) with other TMCC faculty, staff, and/or students. Employees may request a cloth-based source control mask from the EHS office, and requests will be met on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students will be required to wear face coverings while attending classes and activities at TMCC. Disposable masks will be available in high-traffic areas and offices for students. Masks will also be available for purchase for students, faculty, and staff needing face coverings. Teaching faculty will be provided with additional ADA compliant face coverings for in-person instruction.

Health Assessment Areas

To protect all students, faculty and staff, each TMCC location will have health assessment areas with assigned COVID-19 response coordinators. These coordinators will work with the Environmental Health and Safety Office to quickly assist faculty, staff, and/or students who feel ill. Best practices will be used to determining if a person feeling symptoms associated with COVID-19 will be able to return home or should be taken to a medical facility for treatment. For those who rely on public transportation, we are developing transportation guidelines.

TMCC Environmental Health and Safety will continue to remain in contact with local and state health agencies and will report any notice of confirmed cases of infection.

Cleaning Protocols and Social Distancing Standards

Facilities and Maintenance staff are installing signage, queuing floor indicators, preparing classrooms and common spaces, and monitoring HVAC systems to ensure proper air return and ventilation in compliance with Nevada OSHA guidance. TMCC Facilities and Maintenance staff have already placed hand sanitizer dispensers in key locations and have ordered cleaning supplies to allow for cleaning and disinfection of areas after use and throughout the day.

Should an area of any TMCC site be contaminated, safety measures and procedures for immediate closure will take effect until deep cleaning can occur. TMCC Environmental Health and Safety will continue to work closely with Facilities and Maintenance to ensure that cleaning and disinfection are in compliance with CDC and Nevada OSHA.

Travel

TMCC will follow travel guidelines established by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). As advised by federal and state health authorities, in conjunction with the CDC, NSHE is following new guidelines that stipulate that all individuals returning from or through China, Italy, Iran, Japan and South Korea, must be self-quarantined for 14 days after their return.

Students and staff who recently had their study abroad programs cancelled are all to observe a 14-day self-quarantine upon their return to the United States. These students and faculty have been contacted in an abundance of caution, which mirrors actions taken by institutions across the country and internationally.

If you know someone who is in self-quarantine, please consider supporting them through emails and texts, but respect the quarantine; do not visit them in person. Please visit the NSHE website for more information.

Stage Planning

In planning the four-stage return, faculty and staff were asked to keep in mind that a return to a previous phase could be possible and plans should be developed accordingly. Each department and division has submitted coordinated action plans for return specific to their area of operation. These plans comply with NSHE, CDC, and OSHA guidelines.
