TMCC is offering courses in Data Analytics. These non-credit courses are online and will teach you skills in Data Analytics and Data Visualization. No separate textbooks required. Computer and Internet access is required.

Course Information

Data Analytics: Introduction to PostgreSQL for Data Science

Delivered online. Estimated 40 hours.

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the analytical process and the role of the analyst, the basics of SQL—Structured Query Language—and builds a solid understanding about how data is entered, managed, and retrieved from databases.

The course is self-paced, and you will practice each skill or concept as you go. Automatic feedback is built into the course for both practices and quizzes.

The course is divided into four Units, and each Unit is composed of five Sections. Each Section consists of seven instructional/practice levels, a quiz, and a master (proficiency) level. You can return to any level or quiz for review.

Unit 1: Introduction to Data, Databases and SQL
Unit 2: SQL Queries
Unit 3: Creating and Managing Tables
Unit 4: Joining Tables

While learning skills in the Data Analytics course, you can practice queries and create portfolio artifacts.

Prerequisite(s): No formal prerequisites. Students use basic math and algebra operations, number systems, and data functions such as average and sum. An understanding of coding is helpful but not required.


Data Analytics: Advanced PostgreSQL for Data Science

Delivered online. Estimated 40 hours.

Course Description

This course is a follow-up course after PostgreSQL Fundamentals. It is suitable for students who are genuinely interested in PostgreSQL and want to become experts in using PostgreSQL.

The course is self-paced, and you will practice each skill or concept as you go. Automatic feedback is built into the course for both practices and quizzes.

The course is divided into four Units, and each Unit is composed of five Sections. Each Section consists of seven instructional/practice levels, a quiz, and a master (proficiency) level. You can return to any level or quiz for review.

Unit 1: Conditional Expressions
Unit 2: Text Strings
Unit 3: Sets and Subqueries
Unit 4: Advanced Joins

If you complete both PostgreSQL Fundamentals and Advanced courses, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from TMCC.

Data Analytics: Data Visualization

Delivered online. Estimated 50 hours.

Course Description

This course introduces students to the basics of the Python programming language, using the open-source libraries Numpy, Seaborn, and Matplotlib to explain key concepts in data visualization and reporting. Topics include concepts and methods used in graphical representation of data, exploration and reporting of data, and basic linear regression methods. Upon completion, students should be able to effectively use graphical tools to communicate insights about data.

The course is divided into three Units, and each Unit is composed of five Sections. Each Section consists of seven instructional/practice levels, a quiz, and a master (proficiency) level. You can return to any level or quiz for review. The first two units are in the course titled Intro to Python for Data Science. The third unit is in the course titled Intro to Predictive Data Analytics:

Intro to Python for Data Science

Unit 1: Learn fundamental numeric, text string, list and tuple operations.
Unit 2: Write conditional programs using if-elif-else statements and while loops.

Intro to Predictive Data Analytics

Unit 1: Perform linear regression analysis using Python

As a self-paced class, this learning is flexible in regards to timing, but to keep students engaged in the course, there is a time limit of 6 months to complete the class. The course was made to build on the topics learned and requires commitment to work on the course. Long delays of time between lessons is detrimental to the learning experience.

If you complete both PostgreSQL Fundamentals and Advanced courses, and Data Visualization, you will receive a Certificate of Completion in Data Analytics from TMCC.

Prerequisite(s): Students should be proficient at high school level math such as Algebra. An understanding of coding is helpful but not required.
