Foreign Language Coordinator

Per the NFA Contract, Article 9, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for a Foreign Language Coordinator.

Description

The coordinator is to assist the Humanities and Foreign Language Department Chair, with the following support as related to the Foreign Language planning, placement, evaluation, and assessment processes.

Scope of Work

This is an assignment requiring additional work days/hours outside regular contract days, including times as needed during the Summer months to fulfill duties. The assignment begins Aug. 8, 2024, and ends June 30, 2025, with approximately 210 work hours/year. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  1. Oversee program and discipline reviews and their yearly updates, in conjunction with the Chair and other full-time faculty.
  2. Ensure that part-time instructors are of the highest quality through regular observations and mentoring.
  3. Manage issues related to part-time instructors, including recruiting part time faculty, providing recommendations for hiring (including reference checks), providing mentorship, feedback, and orientation to course outcomes.
  4. Oversee classroom management concerns and orient part-time faculty to resources.
  5. Conduct peer observations of part-time faculty and share these observations with the instructor and the Chair.
  6. Ensure part-time instructor compliance with program and discipline guidelines.
  7. Supervise textbook adoptions and other ancillary material orders.
  8. Follow assessment process by participating in the collection and analysis of established program and general education assessment data and producing an annual report based on these findings and regularly developing, revising and reviewing assessment guidelines and procedures.
  9. In conjunction with faculty and the Chair, the Coordinator will recommend appropriate numbers and distributions of introductory and advanced classes.
  10. Attend to the needs of students pursuing degrees in the Foreign Language disciplines.
  11. Utilize official enrollment data to develop the class schedule, consult with other NSHE faculty regarding curricular issues, ensure courses are offered in a schedule that allows students access and contributes to their retention and graduation, make changes to curriculum and program requirements where applicable, and carry through the appropriate College process.
  12. Act as a liaison with other higher education institutions.
  13. At the end of each semester, the Foreign Language Coordinator will provide a brief written report that details the progress and activities to the department chair and dean, and the report will summarize that semester’s progress on each job duty.
  14. Other duties as agreed upon by Department Chair or Dean.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:

  • Current TMCC Foreign Language faculty.
  • One year full-time teaching experience in Foreign Language.
  • Must be familiar with the curriculum components of the department Foreign Languages, including assessment practices, as well as the relevant transfer agreements.

Compensation

3 credits of reassigned time per semester (6 credits/year total) or monetary equivalent.

Interested faculty will submit a letter of interest describing special qualifications and background information no later than 5 p.m. on May 16, 2024.

The letter should be addressed to Natalie Russell, Dean of Liberal Arts. Note: Administrative faculty must include a documented plan for separation of the additional assignment work from regular work time.

The Dean of Liberal Arts will notify applicants of the hiring decision on or before May 17, 2024.
