English Developmental Instructor/Liaison

Per the NFA Contract, Article 10, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for three English Developmental Instructors/Liaisons.

Description

The Instructors/Liaisons are to facilitate the instruction and oversight of implementation of developmental English curriculum to select Washoe County School District (WCSD) English teachers. Note: this additional assignment is pending approval of the Memorandum of Understanding with the WCSD.

Scope of Work

This assignment will begin Aug. 18, 2014 and will end June 30, 2015; approximately 52.5 work hours/semester (105 work hours/year).

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  1. Establish meeting schedule and meet regularly with select Washoe County School District teachers to instruct in the implementation of ENG 98R curriculum.
  2. Serve in a mentoring capacity to select Washoe County teachers to provide guidance on syllabus construction, grading, assignment design, and overall pedagogy.
  3. Conduct assessment workshops, including norming sessions and rubric construction.
  4. Accountability: At the end of each semester, the liaisons will provide a written report that details progress and activities to the Department Chair and Dean. The report will describe that semester’s progress on each job duty.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:

  • Current TMCC English faculty.
  • One year full time teaching experience in developmental English at the college level.
  • Must be familiar with the curriculum components of developmental English, including assessment practices

Compensation

Monetary equivalent of 1.5 credit hours per semester per liaison.

Reports To

English Department Chair/Academic Dean.

Interested faculty will submit a letter of interest describing qualifications and background information as relevant to the responsibilities outlined above and a current CV. The letter should be addressed to the Dean of Liberal Arts and must be received in that office by 5 p.m. on August 27, 2014.

Selection Process

The Dean of Liberal Arts will notify applicants of the hiring decision on or before August 29, 2014.
