Astronomy Curriculum Developer

Per the NFA Contract, Article 9, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for an Astronomy Curriculum Developer.

Description

The Astronomy Curriculum Developer will create Open Educational Resources (OER), design assignments, assessments, and develop the Canvas site for the AST 104 course, Introduction to Astronomy.

Scope of Work

This is an assignment requiring additional work days/hours outside of regular contract days.  This assignment will begin May 18, 2024 and will end June 30, 2024.  The position will entail approximately 45 hours of work.  This assignment is not automatically renewed annually.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  1. Develop course materials, assignments, projects, and assessments in alignment with established Course Objectives, Learning Outcomes, and Learning Measures.
  2. Create and maintain the Canvas site for program instruction, ensuring it is organized, accessible, and supportive of student learning.
  3. Execute assigned duties in accordance with the standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.
  4. Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding towards the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds as well as disabilities of community college students.
  5. Adhere to all published college policies and procedures.
  6. Fulfill any additional responsibilities as delegated by the Dean.

Qualifications

Current TMCC faculty (teaching or administrative).  One-year experience teaching in Astronomy or Physics. Experience with curriculum development.

Compensation

3 credits stipend

Reports To

Dean of Computer, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences

Interested faculty will submit a letter of interest describing special qualifications and background information no later than 5 p.m. on May 3, 2024.

The letter should be addressed to Anne Flesher, Dean of Computer, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences. Note: Administrative faculty must include a documented plan for separation of the additional assignment work from regular work time.

The Dean will notify applicants of the hiring decision on or before May 10, 2024.
