Crafting Effective Thesis Statements

In this hands-on workshop, learn what a thesis statement is and why it is important. Learn strategies for how to write thesis statements that are effective and clear.

Learn the basics of organizing and outlining an essay. This is especially helpful before writing an essay but can be applied to an essay that has already been written.

How to Paraphrase

This workshop is intended to help you become more comfortable with the uses of and differences between quotations, paraphrases, and summaries. This workshop will give some pointers and will include a short exercise to practice these skills.

Intro to Graphing Calculator

This is a hands-on workshop to introduce new students to the TI-83 or TI-84 version of the graphing calculator. This workshop does not cover any of the graphing features, only the calculating features. Please bring your calculator, or one can be provided to you for the workshop.

MLA Formatting

This is a hands-on workshop for students who want to learn the basics of the Modern Language Association (MLA) format, which is used in the fine arts and humanities. Leave the workshop with several resources, including helpful links, a sample paper with formatting notes, and a template to use for future papers.

Perfecting Your Punctuation
