SGA Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The SGA conducts its business and engages in projects that are dedicated to advancing the overall quality of the total learning experience. The SGA seeks to accomplish this mission by:

  • Providing effective and responsive student governance;
  • Promoting student activities as an enhancement to the overall learning experience;
  • Promoting the general welfare of all students; and
  • Advocating student rights and concerns.

Strategic Goals

  1. Community Service – To promote TMCC student participation in community service projects throughout the Truckee Meadows region. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through these student government determined initiatives:
    • Community service promotion
    • Positive public relations by service to the community
  2. Students, Clubs and Organization Representation – To recognize students, clubs and organizations while encouraging fellowship and student involvement. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through these student government determined initiatives:
    • Student recognition programs and activities.
    • Club and organization recognition/fellowship/input.
  3. Student Leadership – To facilitate the creation of a student leadership program at Truckee Meadows Community College. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through these student government determined initiatives:
    • Assist the Student Activities and Leadership Coordinator in the development of a comprehensive student leadership program.
    • Self growth and recognition through training and interaction.
    • Development of leaders of tomorrow while guiding their self-worth and self-esteem.
  4. SGA Facilities – To provide appropriate facilities for student use that are aesthetically pleasing, safe, environmentally friendly and conducive to the learning experience. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through the following initiatives:
    • Renaming the SGA office space to more adequately represent the actual purpose of the area.
    • Obtain more seating in the SGA lounge and student center lobby.
  5. Club/Organization Outreach – To support and foster the creation and growth of student clubs and organizations at TMCC. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through the following initiatives:
    • Club promotion/improvement.
    • Campus sports clubs.
    • Club awareness, participation.
    • Increase the number of student clubs to 20.
    • To see more students involved in student clubs/organizations.
    • Increase student involvement in student government and organizations.
    • Club adviser training.
  6. Processes, Standards, Procedures and Awareness – To provide information to the student body about academic and administrative processes. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through the following initiatives:
    • Awareness of academic/administrative processes and standards.
    • Awareness of transfer guidelines.
    • Assisting in the consistency and standardization of program admission requirements.
    • Awareness of financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
    • Awareness of campus services in order to refer students who are faced with challenges around campus.
    • Awareness of campus activities and provide a source of information regarding these activities with the TMCC students in an effort to help the student body in being more informed.
    • Ensuring ADA compliance.
    • Standardization and improvement of campus academic advisement.
  7. Student Life, Culture and Diversity – To create a fun, energetic and lively atmosphere through events and programs. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through the following initiatives:
    • Develop student culture.
    • Open up Student Life on campus through club awareness.
    • Develop and foster new associations with other students who share similar interests and to learn from these individuals.
    • Inform students beyond the classroom.
    • Broaden the knowledge base and understanding.
    • Increase campus cultural life, understanding that there is more to do here than go to class.
    • Increase marketing programs and marketing effectiveness to better inform the campus about upcoming events.
  8. Student Government Participation and Presence – To increase awareness of an involvement in student government, provide service to the student body and integrate all branches of TMCC students into the SGA. The SGA hopes to meet this goal through the following initiatives:
    • Awareness and involvement.
    • Increased turnout in SGA elections/contested positions.
    • Increased student awareness of the SGA.
    • Promotion of necessity of student representation.
    • Provide a caring, concerned voice for the student body.
    • Service to the TMCC community of students.
    • Demonstrate that students have an impact on campus.
    • Bring in more of the student body to vote and participate in elections.
    • Keep students informed of the variety of opportunities available through the student government.
    • Achieve recognition and respect around campus.
    • Build school pride
    • Make SGA more visible and available to the students.
    • Get out SGA name/mission to the students.
    • Learn more about TMCC and SGA government.
    • Increase student involvement in government.
    • Learn about government process.
    • Promote the government process to the student body.
