SGA Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The SGA conducts its business and engages in projects that are dedicated to advancing the overall quality of the total learning experience. The SGA seeks to accomplish this mission by:

  • Providing effective and responsive student governance;
  • Promoting student activities as an enhancement to the overall learning experience;
  • Promoting the general welfare of all students; and
  • Advocating student rights and concerns.

2012-13 Goals

SGA Constitution, Bylaws, and Policies and Procedures

  • Update constitution
  • Develop bylaws and policies and procedures
  • Update Club Handbook
  • Update Election Packet
  • Update College Catalogue

Increase Number of Clubs and Club Activities

  • Increase number of clubs to 14
    • Simplify the club recognition process
      • Reduce advisor requirements from 1.5FT to 1PT
      • Reduce number of students required to start a club from 10 to 4
      • Allow forming clubs to meet up to three times to establish club
      • Sample constitution and bylaws on SGA website
      • SGA info tables to promote starting clubs
  • SGA Senators promote club activities in classes
  • Club orientation and trainings
    • Annual orientation for Exec Board and Advisors
      • Two sessions; fall or spring
    • Monthly SGA President's Council Meetings
    • Club leadership and Advisor listserv
  • Simplify access to club funds by allowing student clubs to check out purchasing cards
  • Streamline and clarify event approval process

Provide Leadership Development Opportunities

  • Increase outside student participation in SGA committees
  • Support leadership development through the financial support of trainings and conferences attended by clubs and organizations
  • Create liaison positions at SGA meetings
  • SGA attendance in conference(s)

Increase SGA Awareness

  • Support fall welcome fair
  • Each SGA Board Member will present about SGA to 8 classes per academic year
  • Facebook Initiative to increase marketing and promotion of SGA and SGA events
  • Develop Twitter to increase marketing and promotion of SGA and SGA events
  • Promote SGA through flat screen monitors around campus
  • Update website
  • Increase availability of SGA Board through individual email addresses and voicemail boxes
  • Pictures of SGA Board Members in front of the library
    • SGA will be at each satellite campus for 30min per week during the academic year

Create Scholarship Opportunities

  • Develop a SGA scholarship for FY2014

Community Involvement Opportunities

  • Promote student engagement by providing community service opportunities
