High Tech Center at Redfield

Introduction

In 2005, TMCC and the University of Nevada, Reno formed the first collaborative higher education venture in Nevada at the Redfield Campus. This new campus provides a seamless college education to Northern Nevada students: TMCC will offer lower division courses (freshmen and sophomore level classes) and UNR will offer higher division courses (junior and senior level classes), allowing students to complete associate's and bachelor's degrees at one facility.

TMCC offers nursing, veterinary technology and general education courses--such as biology, core humanities, English, math, philosophy and speech communication--at the High Tech Center. Students can complete an associate of applied science degree in nursing or in veterinary technology and receive student support services--such as tutoring, academic advisement and library access--at Redfield.

TMCC Facility Facts

The $6.6 million TMCC High Tech Center was constructed as a Nevada Public Works Board project. It is a 34,000-square-foot, single story building with masonry exterior. There are seven general classrooms, two science labs, one nursing lab, an open computer lab, a distance education classroom, library resource center and faculty offices. Tate Snyder Kinsey Architects of Reno designed the facility, and Clark & Sullivan of Sparks were general contractors.

TMCC was able to start the fall 2005 semester operations in full due to a generous $1 million gift from the Nell J. Redfield Foundation. The gift provided for the design and installation of nursing and science laboratories and technology.
