TMCC Launches 2009 Annual Fund Campaign

The Truckee Meadows Community College Foundation has launched its 2009 Annual Fund Campaign. This year, the foundation’s goal is $50,000 and funds raised from the campaign support students directly through scholarships, classroom equipment and technology.

Funds raised through the annual fund campaign help many of TMCC’s students. One TMCC student, Carmen, is achieving her dream of a higher education with the help of the TMCC Foundation. In her family, education wasn’t a high priority. Neither of her parents graduated from high school, so the idea of college was a foreign concept.

She is very proud to be the mother of an intelligent, charming nine-year-old boy. Over the years, they have faced hard times. His father left them, and they moved in with her mother who eventually lost her home due to drug addiction. While this situation was extremely difficult, it also became her defining moment, a moment when she realized that she could do better for her son. When her son was four, she started classes at TMCC, thanks to significant financial support from the TMCC Foundation. The biggest gift from the foundation was the emotional boost of the gift. She knew that successful, accomplished individuals supported TMCC and cared about her, her family and her future.

Carmen plans to graduate from TMCC in May 2010, work as a registered dietetic technician, transfer to UNR and pursue her bachelor’s degree. Financial support to the TMCC Foundation through year’s annual fund will make the difference in many students’ lives just like Carmen.

For information, please contact Paula Lee Hobson, executive director, TMCC Foundation and Institutional Advancement, at 775- 674-7648.

To give, please send checks made payable to the TMCC Foundation to 7000 Dandini Blvd., Reno, NV 89512 or make a payment by credit card via PayPal.
