Barrels collected by TMCC in 2012
National news reminds us that a family of four enrolled in the federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps) will be receiving $36 less per month starting Nov. 1, 2013. There are currently 23.1 million households in the United States who are enrolled in SNAP, including many in northern Nevada.
To do our part to combat hunger in Nevada, TMCC has opened its annual food drive by placing barrels all over the College, with a goal to collect at least 10 barrels of food and a few hundred dollars in cash donations. In partnership with the KTVN Share Your Holidays event, barrels will be available for collection through December 11 at TMCC. All food donated will be distributed at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Donation barrels can be found in these locations around TMCC:
Cash and check donations are being collected by Scott Alquist and can be sent through TMCC’s interoffice mail to EDSN 102 through Wednesday, Dec. 11. Checks should be made out to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
This event is sponsored by TMCC and the Student Government Association. For more information, contact Scott Alquist at 775-857-4958.
