Dual Credit Courses Offered for High School Students
Posted: Nov 19, 2013
Two options exist for high school students who wish to earn high school and college credit for courses at the same time.
High school students who wish to enroll in classes at TMCC may also earn credit towards high school graduation at the same time, when enrolling in pre-approved college courses. Washoe County School District (WCSD) has released a list of pre-approved college courses offered in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) which will be accepted for dual credit towards high school graduation as well as towards a college degree. The list for the 2013-14 school year
was approved and posted online in October 2013, along with the WCSD policies for obtaining credit. There are 175 courses that qualify for academic credit for WCSD students, in addition to courses that qualify as elective credits.
High school students are also invited to apply for credit through TMCC's Tech Prep
program, which is for juniors and seniors enrolled in articulated high school courses offered at the high school level. These courses have the added benefits of being offered at your high school, for no tuition and with no textbooks to purchase. The courses are offered at all Washoe County School District comprehensive high schools, the Academy of Arts, Career and Technology, ACE Charter High School, I Can Do Anything Charter High School, Carson City High School, Elko County School District, Lowry High School, Dayton High School, Douglas High School, Yerington High School and Sierra Nevada Job Corps. A list of approved courses
can be found online.
