Linking Pathways to Success Forum, Dec. 14

Posted: Dec 3, 2012

The Linking Pathways to Success Forum will be held on Friday, Dec. 14 from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the TMCC Dandini Campus, Sierra Building, room 108.

The goal for the forum is to strengthen the collaboration between the Washoe County School District, Truckee Meadows Community College, and the University of Nevada, Reno to address the issue of developmental education and college placement testing in the WCSD and institutions of higher education.  The Linking Pathways forum began as a partnership between TMCC and WCSD in December 2010.

The 2012 forum will include presentations from TMCC, UNR and the WCSD to showcase some of the current collaborative efforts to improve remedial preparation. In addition, discussions will focus on how TMCC , UNR and the WCSD can work together to ensure that students receive the proper instructional programs and testing opportunities that will enable them to acquire the competency to be successful in college-level programs.

Presentations will include:

- Keeping ACCUPLACER real, by Brett Baudean Miller (The College Board, Senior Assessment Manager)
- Moving forward: shaping the future of underprepared students, by Dr. Maria Sheehan (TMCC President), Dr. Marc Johnson (UNR President), and Traci Davis (WCSD Deputy Superintendent)
- WCSD ACCUPLACER testing report, by Paul Richter (WCSD Director of Assessment)
- Creating a path to success: the importance of accurate placement and appropriate remedial course offerings, by Erika Bein (TMCC English department chair), Dr. Armida Fruzzetti (TMCC Dean, Division of Liberal Arts), Chris Herald (UNR Core Mathematics Director and professor), Ted Plaggemeyer (TMCC Dean, Division of Sciences), and Paul Richter (WCSD Director of Assessment)
