Truckee Meadows Community College will host more than 450 guests at an inaugural event to recognize student scholarship recipients and scholarship donors on Friday, Oct. 8, 5:30 p.m. in the V. James Eardley Student Center at the Dandini Campus.
This year, TMCC awarded scholarships to more than 273 students totaling more than $351,000.
“We are pleased to host this event to give our scholarship recipients the opportunity to meet the donors who have helped them pursue their dreams of new careers and opportunities for their families,” said Paula Lee Hobson, executive director, TMCC Foundation.
With the new emphasis by the Obama administration on community colleges and the goal to increase graduates by the year 2020, helping student financially is more important than ever. At TMCC, 37 percent of students receive some form of financial aid, including scholarships. The national average is 50 percent.
“TMCC students work hard to earn and maintain scholarships and are grateful for the support they receive. As the college works to prepare students for the new economy, we acknowledge the importance of taking a moment to celebrate the work of our students and the financial support of our community donors,” Hobson said.
TMCC is a comprehensive community college located in Reno, Nevada, and is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). The college serves more than 32,000 students each year in credit and non-credit programs.
