(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) and the Washoe County School District (WCSD) will meet at a forum hosted by the college on Friday, Dec. 10, to discuss and create strategies to increase student success in Washoe County.
The Linking Pathways to Success Forum will be held from 7:45 a.m. to noon at the TMCC Dandini Campus, Sierra Building, room 108.
“We are pleased to host this forum to facilitate the discussion between school district and college faculty and administrators to ensure student success is linked at both levels,” said Dr. Maria C. Sheehan, TMCC president.
At the forum, the WCSD will present its strategic plan and TMCC will provide current data for student achievement. A report on the collaboration between the WCSD and TMCC English departments will also be presented as well as strategies for students that place in developmental math.
This special meeting is designed to tear down educational silos as faculty in two critical areas, English and math, and administrators and counseling staff from the WCSD and TMCC roll up their sleeves to develop meaningful pathways for student achievement in Northern Nevada. This will be a practical meeting where actions not just words are the expected outcomes.
The forum will also include a discussion by faculty and administrators at each level related to strategic efforts for alignment for student success. The forum’s results will be summarized by Dr. Jesus “Jess” Carreon, TMCC interim vice president of academic affairs and student services, and concrete next steps for TMCC and WCSD will be determined.
TMCC is a comprehensive community college located in Reno, Nev. The college serves more than 32,000 students each year in credit and non-credit programs.
