Student Competitions Offer Cash Prizes
There are currently a few ways for TMCC students to earn cash prizes by entering student competitions:
- Online voting ends tomorrow, March 15 at 3 p.m., for your SGA Planner Cover. Students have submitted entries already, and the planner that gets the most likes on Facebook wins. For more information email Nicole Shimabuku.
- Entry forms are due on Monday, April 1 by 5 p.m. for the Alliance of Racial Minorities’ 20th Annual Student Speech Contest. Contest is open to current TMCC, UNR and WNC students who are enrolled in at least 6 credits, and the speaking topic is: What does diversity mean to you and why is it important to you? Cash prizes will be $300 for first place, $150 for second place, and $75 for third place. The contest will take place Friday, April 5, at 3 p.m. in the Lilli Brant Reading Room (301) in the DeLaMare Library in the Mackay Mines building on the UNR campus. Turn in your entry form today in RDMT 207G, or contact Angela Adlish for more information at 775-674-7545.
- The TLC Writing Center is conducting its second-annual campus-wide Writing Contest. Submissions must be writing assignments from Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 classes. There are three categories: 1. English / Fine Arts / Humanities, 2. Social Science / Business / Technology, and 3. Math / Science / Nursing. There will be first ($150), second ($100), and third ($50) place prizes awarded in each of the three categories (nine cash awards total). In addition, a free three-credit course will be awarded for the best of the nine winning entries. All entries are due by April 5th, 2013, judging will take place immediately, and the awards will be presented during the Student Awards Ceremony on May 22nd, 2013.
