The Elizabeth Sturm Library at Truckee Meadows Community College was founded in 1971.

Initially, the library was the North Campus Learning Resource Center of Western Nevada Community College, and the materials were housed at the Stead Branch of Washoe County Public Library. In 1976, a formal library was put in place by Elizabeth Sturm, the first librarian. Ms. Sturm was instrumental in establishing this library, as well as others throughout the state.

In December, 1979, the WNCC-North campus became Truckee Meadows Community College, and the library became its own entity. When she retired in 1988, Sturm was honored for her years of service and dedication by having the library at TMCC named for her.

The library has moved several times since 1971, but it now has a dedicated building on campus. The facility has approximately 33,000 square feet, a seating capacity of 225, and a lovely view of the Truckee Meadows area. It opened on January, 22, 1996.

Library Mission

The mission of the Elizabeth Sturm Library and its branch locations is to support the mission and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College by providing essential information resources to faculty, students, and staff.

The library:

  • Proactively interacts with faculty and administration to enhance the college's teaching mission and curriculum.
  • Introduces students to the tools needed to empower them to become independent researchers, critical thinkers, and disseminators of information.
  • Provides resources and training to support distance education.

The Nell J. Redfield Learning Center, the Meadowood Center resources room and the High Tech Center at Redfield are limited-service branches of the Sturm Library on the Dandini Campus. These three sites provide resources in support of specific curricula taught at those locations.
