Job Preparation Workshops

The Job Preparation Center at TMCC offers a variety of workshops to assist you with the entire job search process. These small group workshops involve hands-on activities and practical applications for all attendees. Plenty of student interaction enlivens and enhances the learning environment.

While these workshops cover numerous aspects of deciding on a career or finding a job, they also deal with fears, obstacles, self-esteem, and other factors that may affect your search.

You must register for all workshops a minimum of two-business days in advance. To register, please stop by our office in RDMT 114 or contact us.

Available workshops include:

Exploring Your Assets: Identifying your strengths and transferable skills are the first steps to show an employer how their organization will benefit from adding you to their team.

Developing Your Résumé: The time it takes an employer to form their first impression is as long as the average commercial. Make your first impression by learning how to create a résumé that presents your skills and experience in the most positive light.

Writing an Effective Cover Letter: An effective cover letter can help you set yourself apart from other applicants by highlighting your background in a personal way, allowing an employer the opportunity to get to know you rather than just your skills and experiences.

Finding and Keeping the Job: Networking, marketing yourself, presenting a good image, and communicating your abilities are the skills that land jobs and will keep you employed.

Interviewing Successfully: Your foot is in the door. Now you have to sell yourself. Being prepared through practice and knowing how to answer difficult questions are important keys to a successful interview.

Dressing for Success: You want to stand out from the crowd in an interview, but not for the wrong reasons. Learn about clothing and grooming choices that can help you make the right impression on an employer.

Online Employment Applications: If you walk into a business and ask for an employment application, there is a good chance you'll be directed over to an application computer kiosk on-site or a website. Learn about a variety of tips to take the frustration out of the online application process.
