Job Preparation Workshops

Random TMCC Image

The Job Preparation Center at TMCC offers a variety of workshops to assist you with the entire job search process. Workshops are offered throughout the academic year in small groups and one-on-one. Please check the events calendar for upcoming workshops.  They involve hands-on activities and practical applications for all attendees. Plenty of student interaction enlivens and enhances the learning environment.

While these workshops cover numerous aspects of deciding on a career or finding a job, they also deal with fears, obstacles, self-esteem, and other factors that may affect your search. If there is a workshop you would like to attend but it is not offered, please let us know and we can address your needs individually.

All workshops can be presented in classrooms and adjusted to fit time constraints. Faculty can contact the Job Preparation Center and request a specific workshop. We can also create specific job preparation workshops for your class if what you need is not listed.

Available Workshops

Résumé/Cover Letter Review: Learn how to create a professional résumé and cover letter for the job you want.  Whether you’re looking for your first job, switching careers or re-entering the workforce, we can provide you with the skills needed to create a quality résumé and cover letter for your job search.

Interviews Made Easy: Nerves can get the best of you during the interview.  We can help prepare you for common questions that might come up and give you insight on what interviewers are really asking.

Network Like a Pro: Start networking now to increase your job leads. The more people you know, the more likely you are to hear about jobs before anyone else.  We have tips for networking with professionals in your field and where to find networking events for students.

Introduction to LinkedIn: Learn about this free social media site that 93% of recruiters are using to find qualified employees.  We can help you build a profile to connect with professionals all over the world to not only increase your network but also your employability.

Mock Interviews: If you have an upcoming interview, let us know a few days ahead of time and we can conduct a mock interview to help you get the jitters out of the way.  While there is no way to predict all of the questions, we can help prepare you for the more common ones.

Nevada Career Information Systems (NCIS): Learn how to navigate NCIS to find information on the occupational outlook in Nevada, scholarship opportunities, comparing occupations, skills assessment and more.  NCIS is a great tool to discover other potential fields of interest based on what you currently enjoy doing and provides users with useful job search information.

(Ask your instructors if extra credit is available for workshop/event attendance!)
