Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Internships and volunteer experiences are a valuable method of gaining work experience in a particular field while earning a degree. Internships are typically one-time, semester-long work experiences related to a student's field of study.

Things to consider when planning an internship:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher to qualify
  • Near the completion of your degree or certificate program at TMCC
  • Must register for credit hours as credit is awarded for the successful accomplishment of specific individualized occupational learning objectives, work-time requirements and an employer evaluation
  • 75 hours of internship experience is required for each academic credit
  • The total number of internship hours a student may apply to a degree in a specific instructional program is established by that academic department
  • Must have an internship adviser from a specific instructional program

Internship participation and volunteering provide:

  • a useful understanding of the field of study/work;
  • the opportunity to explore career options while still in college or awaiting employment;
  • the ability to gain work experience in a career field while still attending college;
  • a competitive edge over other candidates in the subsequent hiring process;
  • reinforces classroom learning with real world applications.
