Network/Remote Login

Saving your files to the TMCC network is simple and smart. Why smart? Although many staff do back up their data from their local hard drive to floppy disk, floppy disks are one of the least reliable storage medium available. If your hard drive fails and the floppy disk that you saved your data to is bad, then there is no way to recover your data. That is why the network is the best location to store TMCC-related data (class material, budget data, and the like). Not only is data on the network backed up on a daily basis (except weekends), but it can also be accessed from remote locations via the Internet.

Network Resources

Once an individual logs into the network, they gain access to the following network resources:

  1. Personal Network disk storage space (approximately 100 MB per user) only accessible by the user.
  2. Departmental and TMCC-accessible disk storage space.
  3. Access to the Internet
  4. Access to GroupWise email
  5. Network printers such as Xerox copiers/fax machines and the ability to retrieve files scanned from networked scanners.
  6. Anti-virus software updates to ensure up-to-date protection from the latest viruses
  7. Distribution of TMCC-licensed software

Network Login Instructions

After starting your computer, a network login screen will appear on your computer (similar to the one below). Simply enter in your user name and network password to access the network resources described above. To ensure network security, network access passwords are required to be unique, more than 8 characters, and changed every 90 days. If the 'Log on to:' field is blank, click on the 'down arrow' on the right of the field and select "TMCCADMN".

Once logged into the network, you will have access to the following network drives by default:

  • H Drive: Otherwise known as your home directory (identified by your username), this is the location of your personal network disk storage space. Additionally, you can provide access to your home directory to other TMCC employees if desired by coordinating with the Help Desk.

To save/backup files to this location, simply select File-Save/Save As in the application you're using and select the H drive as the location to store the named file.
  • T Drive: Otherwise known as "Transfer", this drive is accessible by anyone at TMCC (based on the campus you primarily work at). This is a place where files can be saved and shared quickly. This is often a more effective method of providing access to files to other TMCC employees instead of sending attachments via email. Additionally, as shown on the Xerox Scanning web page, this is the location that files scanned from networked Xerox scanner are retrieved. Approximately every 30 days, files within the Transfer and Xrxscan directories are deleted.
