Medicare/Social Security

All new employees pay 1.45 percent Medicare tax that is matched 100 percent by the college.

Community college employees covered by the college retirement program are ordinarily exempt from Social Security contribution; however, in accordance with federal law, employees hired on or after April 1, 1986, must contribute 1.45 percent (percent) of their salary to the Medicare portion of Social Security. The college matches this contribution.
