GED Testing Information
Changes Ahead for GED Testing: 2013 is the final year for paper-based GED testing. Computer-based GED testing will begin in 2014. All current GED candidates who have not yet completed the full battery of 5 subject tests will need to do so before the end of 2013. The current GED test series cannot be combined with the new series launching Jan 1, 2014.
Registration Information
GED testing is by appointment and must be scheduled in person. Candidates must provide a valid government picture ID, registration information from GED Wizard (Admission Ticket and Application) as well as receipt for the $65 testing fee, prior to being assigned their testing date.
All candidates must be a resident of Nevada to register for the GED test at TMCC. Nevada's residency policy for GED testing allows for testing certain non-residents who live near the border of Nevada in adjacent states when a testing site is not easily accessible to the non-resident. Candidates may provide the following as proof of residency: a valid Nevada issued photo id, or any other valid government issued photo id along with a current utility bill.
More information on eligibility and the required forms you may need if you are under 18 years old:
- If you are 17 years old: you will need to bring a completed withdrawal form from your current high school and a parental/guardian permission slip.
- If you are 16 years old: you must provide a parental/guardian permission slip, a letter from WCSD Board of Trustees granting permission to take the GED, and a withdrawal form from your current high school. Homeschool students may provide the Notice of Intent to Homeschool document in lieu of the WCSD Board of Trustees information.
Required Identification
GED candidates must provide a valid, government issued picture ID.
Cost
The cost of the GED is $65. TMCC accepts cash, checks, money orders or vouchers. Please make the check or money order payable to the Board of Regents. No refunds will be made.
Reschedule/Cancellation Fee
You must call four days before your scheduled test date in order to cancel or reschedule. If you fail to reschedule in this time frame it will count as one of your three attempts.
There are absolutely no refunds. TMCC allows students to reschedule one time under extreme circumstances and will count toward their three attempts in one calendar year.
Students paying to retake section(s) of their exam are not able to reschedule their testing date. The fee paid for the retake allows the individual one attempt. If the individual does not show up, the cost of the test is forfeited.
Important: Prior to paying for the GED, candidates will need to check-in with the TMCC Testing Center prior to paying for their exam. The TMCC Testing Center is located on the Dandini Campus, Red Mountain Building, room 121.

Retaking the Test
Individuals must complete all five portions of the GED exam before any retest can be scheduled.
Individuals who do not pass the GED may retest three times in a twelve (12) month period. The twelve (12) month period begins when the individual takes their exam for the first time. Individuals only need to retest in the subject areas that they did not pass or feel that will raise their overall score over the 2,250 required to pass. GED Testing Services will always take the highest of your scores. You are encouraged to attend a GED preparation class before retesting, but it is not required. For information regarding GED preparation classes, please contact us.
If you have taken your GED test at another test center, you need to have your previous test scores faxed to 775-673-7878 or mailed to the TMCC Testing Center, 7000 Dandini Blvd., RDMT 121, Reno, Nevada 89512-3999. You will also need to pay the $65 testing fee to be established as a tester through our testing center.
Official Test Scores
GED test score transcripts will be mailed when they become available. Should you have any questions about your test score transcript or your Certificate of High School Equivalency, please contact Testing Services within 20 business days from the date on your score transcript.
Starting April 1, 2013, Truckee Meadows Community College will no longer process duplicate GED transcript requests. All individuals and third-party verification firms will be referred directly to DiplomaSender. Online requests for duplicate GED transcripts will be $15; requests by phone (at 855-313-5799) will be $21.
