ASSOCIATEOFAPPLIEDSCIENCE
This programprepares the student topractice as a
licensedveterinary technician. Graduatesmaypractice
as technicians ingeneral or specialtyprivatepractices,
veterinary teachinghospitals, research facilities,
pharmaceutical companies or other agencieswhere
veterinary technicians’ skills areneeded. Veterinary
techniciansmay choose to specialize in areas including
but not limited to anesthesia, critical care, behavior,
ophthalmology, dentistry and surgery.
DEGREEOUTCOMES
Students completing thedegreewill:
• Demonstrate a solidunderstandingof theknowledgeneeded
within thefield, includinganatomyandphysiology, laboratory
procedures,medical and surgical nursing skills, andan
understandingof avarietyof species, including companion
animals.
• Demonstrate competency inall essential job skills as outlined
by theAmericanVeterinaryMedicalAssociation (AVMA)
CommitteeonVeterinaryTechnicianEducationandActivities
(CVTEA), includingpharmacology, surgical nursing, dentistry,
clinical laboratory, animal nursing, diagnostic imaging, and
anesthesiology.
The followingprerequisitesmust be completedprior
to admission into theprogram.These courses also
satisfy theEnglish ,math and science general education
requirements. It is strongly suggested that students
have asmanyof the general education requirements
completed as possiblebefore starting the veterinary
technicianprogram.
