ParamedicProgram
Theparamedicprogram is designed for the studentwho
desires educationwith a career goal as aParamedic.
The certificateof achievement fromTMCCwill be
awarded after the student has completed all program and
certificate requirements.This is a10-month toone year
continuous program.
TheParamedic curriculummeets all requirements as
outlined in theU.S.Department ofTransportation
(DOT) and theParamedicNational Standard
Curriculum.Theprogram is 1,400+hours in length
andbasedon specificobjectives.Thedidactic/classroom
phase includes 700+hours of instruction.Activities
include lectures, skills lab sessions, demonstrations
and simulations.The secondphase is completed in the
hospital environmentwhere the student is provided
theopportunity to apply the cognitiveknowledge and
psychomotor skills gained in the classroom setting.
The student is under direct supervisionof aphysician
or registerednurse andwill participate indirect
patient care.The studentmust complete at least 240
hours of clinical/hospital experience.The third and
final component of theparamedicprogram is thefield
rotationphase.The studentwill apply theknowledge
and skills gained in the classroom andhospital under
thedirect supervisionof apreceptor that is currently
functioning in the roleof aparamedic.
TheParamedic candidatewill be required to complete
aminimumof 480hours of field rotation lab. Student
progression in theprogram is contingent upon attaining
a gradeof “C”or better in all paramedic curricula. A
“C” grade is equal to75%. Coursesmust be taken in the
sequenceoutlined.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTSANDADMISSION
PROCEDURES
Admission to theparamedicprogram certificateof
achievement is limited and requires special procedures.
Theparamedicofficewillmaintain an interest list for
theprogram andwill notify applicants of the testing
dates. Completed applicationswill be acceptedby the
paramedicofficeONLYWITHVERIFICATIONOF
THEFOLLOWING:
1. Fill out the

providerCPRorRedCross professional rescuerCPR
card.
3. CurrentNevadaStateEMT-Basic orEMT
IntermediateCertification, orNational Registry
EMTorAEMT certification.
Studentsmust complete the following criteriaprior
tobeing considered for admission to theparamedic
program.
1. Achieveaminimumaverage score of 75%or higher
on thewrittenEMT-Basic examination.
2. Achieveaminimumaverage score of 75%or higher
on each component of the comprehensive exam
(math, English, science, reading comprehensionand
AandP).
3. Pass anoral interviewpanel.
Students offered admission to theparamedicprogram
will be selectedbasedupon their scores from the
testingprocess.The scores of all applicantswill be
rankednumerically, and the class (which is limited to a
maximumof 24)will be selected from this list beginning
with thehighest score.
Students admitted to theparamedicprogramwill be
notifiedby theparamedicoffice.The admitted student
must complete the following requirements prior to the
start of classes.
1. Satisfyall general collegeadmission criteria.
2. Pass aphysical examinationbyyour doctor.
3. Provide evidence of currentmeasles,mumps,
rubella, andvaricella immunizations or appropriate
titer levels.
4. Provide evidence of current diphtheria-tetanus (DT)
immunization.
5. Provide evidence of completedHepatitisB
immunization; andof anegative two stepTB skin
test ornegative chestX-ray.
6. Provide evidence ofmajormedical health coverage.
7. Be18years of age or olderupon entrance to the
program.
8. Pass anEMSdepartment background checkand
drug test.
Failure tomeet the above requirements by thedeadline
will result in the student’s exclusion from theprogram.
