GovernorGuinnMillenniumScholarship
This scholarship is awardedby theStateofNevada
Treasurer’soffice toallNevadahigh school seniors
whohavemetGovernorGuinnMillennium
Scholarshipeligibility requirements, graduated
June2000or after andmeetprogram requirements,
includingdeclaringadegree, emphasis, or certificate
atTMCC.TheGovernorGuinnMillennium
ScholarshipvalueatTMCC is$40per credit
(excludingcoursesnumberedunder100) for a
minimumof sixcredits andamaximumof 12
credits.While fees for thecoursesnumberedunder
100arenot eligible forpayment ofmillennium funds,
thecourses arecounted toward theminimum six-
credit requirement.Thecredits andgrades earnedare
calculated into the students’GPA.Themillennium

Grants
FederalPellGrant
: thisgrant is fundedby the
federal government andawarded toeligible students
whohavenot yet receivedabachelor’sdegree.The
amount of thegrant isdeterminedby the student’s
estimated familycontribution (EFC).Theactual
award isbasedon theEFC, the student budget at the
institutionand thenumberof credits forwhich the
student enrolls.
Federal SupplementalEducationalOpportunity
Grant
: these limited funds are for students enrolled
inat least sixcreditswhoqualify for aPellGrant.
Studentswhoapplyearlyand show thegreatestneed
aregivenpreference for thisgrant.
Bureauof IndianAffairsGrant
: thisgrant is for
eligibleNativeAmericans andofferedby theBIA
through the individual tribesorBIAagencies.
Students initiate theapplicationprocessbycontacting
their specific tribal office.
AccessStateGrantsandGrants-in-Aid
: these
limited funds areavailable forNevada residents and
somenonresidents enrolledat leasthalf-time (six
credits).TheTMCCfinancial aidofficedetermines
eligibilitybasedonneedormerit.
Loans
FederalPerkinsLoan
: this is a long-term, low-
interest loan.TheTMCCfinancial aidoffice
determineswho is eligibleand theamount of the
loan. Studentshavingexceptional needand the least
ability tocontribute to theirowneducational costs
aregivenpriority.Repayment begins9months after
the student graduates, leaves school ordropsbelow
sixcredits.
Federal StaffordLoans (subsidizedand
unsubsidized)
: theseare low-interest, need-based
andnon-need-based loans.Repayment begins six
months after the student graduates, leaves school or
dropsbelowhalf-time (sixcredits). Studentsmust
haveapplied forfinancial aidwith theFAFSAand
beenrolled inat least sixcredits.To receive the
separate loanapplication, the studentmust contact
thefinancial aidoffice. Prior to receiving their second
disbursement orupongraduating, leaving school or
droppingbelow sixcredits, studentsmust complete

: thePLUS loan is for theparents
of dependent students.The interest rate isfixedat
