EarlyChildhoodEducationDegree
ASSOCIATEOFARTS
The associateof arts in early childhood education
is designed to serve students either as a stand-alone
associatedegree, or as auniversity transfer degree.The
transfer option allows students to complete specific lower
division courses atTMCC andobtain an associateof arts
degree in early childhood education; and then transfer to
UNR as a junior to complete abachelor of sciencedegree
inhumandevelopment and family studies. Students are
encouraged toobtain academic advisement from early
childhood education faculty to facilitate theuniversity
transfer process.
DEGREEOUTCOMES
Students completing thedegreewill:
• Demonstrateproficiency in theknowledge and skills represented
in theNationalAssociation for theEducationofYoungChildren
(NAEYC)national Standards forEarlyChildhoodProfessional
Preparation Programs.
• Gain competence and skills required togain entry intoa
baccalaureatedegreeprogram, includingbut not limited to:
understanding childdevelopment; guidingyoung children;
developingprofessionalism in theECEfield; developingand
implementing curriculum for childrenbirth throughpreschool;
workingwith families and the community; understanding children
withdisabilities; observing, documentingandaccessingyoung
children; andfield experiencesworkingwithyoung children.
