TMCC Fire Technology Mission Statement

The mission of the TMCC fire technology program is to prepare students for entry-level positions and to enhance the career of current fire-service personnel by providing quality, certified classes.

Academy Mission Statement

The mission of the Northern Nevada Fire and Rescue Academy at Truckee Meadows Community College is to develop the cadet toward a career in the fire service through a process of rigorous academics, realistic hands-on training, attitude development, fitness improvement and strict discipline.

Wildland Fire Academy Objectives

The wildland fire academy strives to offer credited college-courses in wildland firefighting which can lead to a two-year degree in fire science with a wildland firefighter emphasis. The degree program includes general education requirements which can all be taken as e-learning, and wildland courses offered in the spring which can taken in a short-duration format during the off season for wildland firefighters.

Most of the wildland fire academy classes can also be taken in a not-for-credit format through TMCC's Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) program.

What Does the Class Schedule Look Like?

The wildland fire academy is scheduled in the spring each year. Most classes starts each day at 8:30 a.m. and last until 5 or 6 p.m.
