Student Employee of the Year Award

The Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) award was created to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college. Students are nominated based on their accomplishments in their workplace. Criteria include reliability, initiative, uniqueness of contribution, quality of work, professionalism, and community and campus service.

The 2008 Student Employee of the Year will receive a plaque and check for $150 from the SGA as well as a TMCC T-shirt courtesy of the career center.

2008 Nominees

	Tara Connolly Administrative Assistant, Counseling Nominator Comments: "Tara takes Initiative in many ways! She is bright and eager to contribute to the department and the campus in general...she goes above and beyond the call of duty and has been known to escort lost or frustrated students to whatever department they may be looking for."
	Wylie Evanson Tutor for Children in Transition (CIT), Washoe County School District Volunteer Services Nominator Comments: "Mr. Evans has turned out to be an incredible mentor for the CIT students. He's often overheard giving pep talks to students on the value of education. He's a wonderful male role model, smart, popular and very cool, but tough about making the students work hard, never letting them give up."
	Judy Guzman Tutor and Program Support, Washoe County School District Volunteer Services Nominator Comments: "Ms. Guzman has a very special gift handling differences e.g. ages, genders, other cultures and different education levels. I am always confident she has the maturity to handle whoever she encounters. What is especially rewarding, as her supervisor and for the children, is her excitement for tutoring."
	Maria Melarkey Clerical Assistant, Math Department Nominator Comments: "Maria has shown a dedication to duty uncommon in most student workers. Maria has the unique combination of skills, patience and enthusiasm which makes her an invaluable member of our administrative team."
	Jon Valery (JV) Tabbada Student Worker, Health Sciences Department Nominator Comments: "JV has been an asset to the department since he started. He has been a support to students when they were upset and an advocate for them if he feels their needs are not being met. He is unfailingly polite and courteous to all with whom he comes in contact, whether staff, students, faculty, or administration."
